60 Second Film Challenge 2024

In association with our friends at Screen Cornwall, Cornwall 365 and WTW Cinemas, we’re thrilled to announce the latest installment of our hugely popular ROUGHCUT 60 Second Film Challenge.

The rules of the competition are as simple as they could be. Make a film no longer than 60 seconds (including credits) inspired by this year’s theme:

The film can be any style or genre as long as it fits the BBFC’s classification for a 12A audience – https://www.bbfc.co.uk/rating/12

Best of all it’s completely free to enter!

Selected films will be screened at an event at the Plaza Cinema, Truro where our specially invited panel of industry professionals will select BEST FILM, 5 x HIGHLY COMMENDED AWARDS, BEST YOUNG PERSONS FILM, BEST CORNWALL BASED FILM. And of course, the audience will get to vote for the AUDIENCE AWARD.

The winners for 2024 are below:

• 5 x HIGHLY COMMENDED AWARDS – ‘Castastrofish’ by Peter Clarke, ‘My Painful Place’ by Jerry Padfield, ‘The Bus Stop’ by Miriam Padrozo, ‘Once Upon Lake Uraemia’ by Reza Golchin and ‘Stroll on the Planet’ by Hirotaka Ikeda
• BEST YOUNG PERSONS FILM (under 18s) – ‘Finding Home’ by Emilia Lawrence
• BEST CORNWALL BASED FILM – ‘Time to Go Home’ by Stacey Guthrie
• AUDIENCE AWARD – Joint award: ‘Man Cave’ by Emily and Craig Barr Green and ‘Couch Potatoes’ by Will Knight (voted for by the audience at our live screening event)

How to enter

The 60 Second film challenge has now closed for 2024.

Rules & Terms

• Films must be no longer than 60 seconds including credits

• All genres accepted (including animation & documentary)

• Films must be suitable for 12A rating – https://www.bbfc.co.uk/rating/12

• Filmmakers must take responsibility for the use of copyrighted materials

• Films can only be accepted online via FilmFreeway

• PLEASE NOTE WE ONLY ACCEPT ONLINE SCREENERS

• Films must be 24fps

• All films entered MUST be a downloadable link at the time of entry

• The organisers reserve the right not to screen any film if the material is deemed offensive or unsuitable

• You must be 12 or over to enter

• Free entry for all Filmmakers

• Shortlisted films will be screened at The Plaza Cinema in Truro, Cornwall 27th March 2024

• Each film selected for screening will be eligible for x1 complimentary ticket to the screening event

• Screen Cornwall / Cornwall 365 has an automatic option of a one year non – exclusive licence.
