The Just A Minute Film Challenge
After the huge success of our previous film challenges, o-region is back with a brand new exciting film challenge in 2008.
This year our competition is called the Just A Minute Challenge.
We've gone back to our roots and made it as simple as can be. The films can be in any style, subject or format - there's only one rule to remember this year - your film has to be less than sixty seconds including credits. And that's pretty much it!!!
As always, we're looking for bold, experimental and imaginative films that really push the boundaries and show a clear, cohesive idea. Think about how you can use the format and the competition rules to your advantage, rather than viewing them as a limitation. Most importantly of all, figure out why your idea suits being filmed in just sixty seconds. Be bold, creative and fearless!
The closing date for entries is the 31st October 2008. The entry fee is £5 for each film submitted before the closing date of 31st October 2008; late entries will be permitted up to the 15th November 2008, but will be subject to a £15 entry charge. Once the closing date has passed, all films will be viewed by a panel of judges, who will draw up the shortlist of films for the final competition screening at the roughcut Christmas party on the 11th December 2008.
As ever we'll be pushing the boat out with our spectacular competition prizes, and we'll be inviting a panel of illustrious professionals to pick the winning films - and of course, the roughcut audience will get to choose their favourite too. This year there will also be a special Young People's Prize. We'll also be entering the best films into this year's Cornwall Film Festival and the Brief Encounters Short Film Festival in Bristol, and forwarding them to Future Shorts, a worldwide film network with which o-region is affiliated.
If you have any more questions about the competition, please feel free to email us at o-region. Good luck - and get filming! You've only got one minute - use it wisely...

2. In entering the competition entrants confirm that they hold all rights in this submission (including script, music and all visual and audio content) and all the relevant permissions necessary to allow the content to be displayed for public exhibition. Entrants must be able to produce evidence of such ownership permissions if required by the o-region management team.
3. Films must be submitted on DVD or as data files (Quicktime .mov, Windows Media, AVI). No other format will be acceptable without prior agreement from the competition organisers.
4. The official closing date for the competition is 31.10.08. Entry fee is £5 per film. Entries after this date will be permitted up to 15.11.08 but will incur a 'late entry' fee of £15. This fee is required to cover the administration and technical costs incurred in running this competition. Please make cheques payable to "o-region".
5. Once the closing date has passed, the final shortlist of films will be drawn up by a panel of independent judges and the artistic team of o-region. Submission of films to the competition does not guarantee inclusion in the final screening selection. roughcut / o-region reserve the right to reject any entry at their discretion if judged to be unsuitable in any way for the competition.
6. The winning films will be chosen at the competition screenings in December 2008 by a specially-invited panel of industry experts. Panel Prizes for first, second and third place, and for Best Young Person's Film will be awarded. The judges' decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
7. Audience members will choose their favourite film by a process of closed ballot. Ballots will be counted and the film with the highest number of audience votes will be judged the winner of the Audience Award.
