Emerging writers call out

o-region is looking for a team of emerging writers to help us work on our 2024 community story project, From the Horse’s Mouth.

We will be working within five communities across Cornwall – Bude, Isles of Scilly, Launceston, Penzance and Redruth – to deliver a series of residencies in 2024 involving teams of artists to explore the themes of WHITE HORSE and capture the essence of what makes that place unique.

First, we will be visiting each community to host an informal drop-in event to collect raw material. This will then provide inspiration for the team of artists, led by Simon Harvey (Artistic Director o-region) and Anna Maria Murphy (Kneehigh, The Writers Block, Radio 4) to develop original stories, scenes and spoken word for performance. This writing will then be collated, curated and developed into performances which will take place within the five communities later in the year.

For more information please see WHITE HORSE / From the Horse’s Mouth.

Emerging writers

We are now seeking expressions on interest from emerging writers who are interested in working with us on the project.

You will be working alongside the o-region team within our five communities (Bude, Isles of Scilly, Launceston, Penzance and Redruth) to write original material inspired by the place and the people within it. Material can take the form of scenes, stories, poetry or songs and can be decided in collaboration with the project leads. We are looking for emerging writers with a connection to Cornwall in general and the communities specifically and will ask you to identify this in your expression of interest.

Writers will receive a fee to cover the cost of attendance at the initial material collection and a small commission time to develop written work.

Delivery of our community events will take place throughout Summer 2024 (May – September) with performances scheduled for Autumn/ Winter (October – December) 2024.

How to apply

Please complete the form below where you will have the opportunity to include why you are interested in the project, what your specific connection is to one (or more) of our identified communities and any experience you might have.

We also require a short example of your writing for performance (maximum of five pages) – this can be attached to the form or emailed separately to info@o-region.co.uk.

Please feel free to email us if you require the form in another format, or if you have any other questions.
